The Offical NTI Z28 Mods Page

A lot of folks want to know exactly what things are under the hood and car and what makes it so darn special. Heck, who knows any more, it has changed so many times? That's why we try to keep track of everything here... time permitting.

Here's the more important components broken down by each "sub-system" as it currently sits in the garage for the 2005 racing season.

2001 Race Corner Weights

These numbers were with the interior out, no passenger seat, a race driver seat, no stereo or A/C, no crush bumpers, a full fuel tank, stock fly wheel (vs light weight SLP version), lighter drive shaft and exhaust system, relocated battery, with driver, safety gear, roll cage, fire bottle, etc.

LF = 1035, RF=998, LR=790, RR=736 TOTAL = 3559
(apx empty curb wt = 3260)
LF + RR = 1771, RF + LR = 1788
(17 lbs diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 2033 to 1526 or 57% to 43%

2002 Race Corner Weights

These numbers were with most of the interior out, no side door glass or power window motors, no passenger seat, a race driver seat, no stereo or A/C, no crush bumpers, a Griffin radiator, 385ci engine and SLP headers, 1/2 tank of fuel, SLP light weight fly wheel, lighter drive shaft and exhaust system, relocated battery, with driver, safety gear, roll cage, fire bottle, etc.

LF = 925, RF=934, LR=887, RR=726 TOTAL = 3472
(apx empty curb wt = 3226)
LF + RR = 1651, RF + LR = 1821
(170 lbs diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 1859 to 1613 or 54% to 46%

2003 Race Corner Weights

These numbers (which I'm not sure I trust due to the ICSCC scales probably not being calibrated correctly) were with most of the interior out, no side door glass or power window motors, no passenger seat, a race driver seat, no stereo or A/C, no crush bumpers, a Griffin radiator, 385ci engine and SLP headers, apx 1/2 tank of fuel, SLP light weight fly wheel, lighter drive shaft and exhaust system, relocated battery, slightly heavier SPEC Stage 3 clutch and preasure plate, with driver, safety gear, roll cage, fire bottle, etc.

LF = 1018, RF=969, LR=762, RR=715 TOTAL = 3464
(apx empty curb wt = 3226)
LF + RR = 1733, RF + LR = 1731
(2 lbs diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 1987 to 1477 or 57% to 43%

These numbers (which were done one week later on 05/31/03) were with the same basic set up except w/o head lights, w/o the center console, with the SZ50 street tires and with 7/8 fuel of tank.

LF = 1006, RF=1003, LR=782, RR=720 TOTAL = 3511
(apx empty curb wt = 3226)
LF + RR = 1726, RF + LR = 1785
(59 lbs diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 2009 to 1502 or 57% to 43%

These numbers (which were done two weeks later on 06/13/03) were with the same basic set up including the SZ50 street tires but with lighter rear control arms, with the T-tops replaced by a fiber glass top, with the rest of the interior trim removed and with 5/8 tank of fuel.

LF = 964, RF=968, LR=805, RR=709 TOTAL = 3446
(apx empty curb wt = 3185)
LF + RR = 1673, RF + LR = 1773
(100 lbs diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 1932 to 1514 or 56% to 44%

These numbers were after the next Oregon Regional race with a bone dry fuel tank.

LF = 920, RF=950, LR=813, RR=697 TOTAL = 3380
(apx empty curb wt = 3185)
LF + RR = 1617, RF + LR = 1763
(146 lbs diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 1870 to 1510 or 55% to 45%

Note how the lower the fuel the higher the diagonal difference gets and how the front to rear weight shifts towards a better balance ratio (which is hard to figure?).

2005-2007 Race Corner Weights

These numbers were with all of the interior out except the dash, no side door glass or power window motors, no passenger seat, a race driver seat, no stereo or A/C or heating system, no crush bumpers, a Griffin radiator, 391ci engine and long tube headers, full custom 25 gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell, SLP light weight fly wheel, lighter drive shaft and exhaust system, relocated battery, slightly heavier SPEC Stage 3 clutch (a lighter QuarterMaster Pro 5.5 triple disk race clutch was installed in 2006) and preasure plate, with driver, safety gear, roll cage, fire bottle, etc.

LF = 978, RF=904, LR=807, RR=783 TOTAL = 3472
(apx empty curb wt = 3134)
LF + RR = 1761... 50.7%, RF + LR = 1711... 49.3%
(50 lbs diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 1882 to 1590 or 54.2% to 45.8%

These corner weights are for the same set up but w/o driver (full fuel load)... the cross weights are darn near 50/50 perfect!

LF = 903, RF=896, LR=747, RR=739 TOTAL = 3285
LF + RR = 1642... 50.0%, RF + LR = 1643... 50.0%
(1 lb diagonal difference)
Front to rear balance = 1799 to 1486 or 54.8% to 45.2%

At the 2007 Rose Cups race the car weighed apx 3461 w/driver. It also has a larger Griffin radiator plus the roll cage was upgraded to 8 points with double side door bars (minus apx 10 gallons of fuel). Apx empty curb wt = 3186.
