Date: 09/21/97 After Phase III Mods and BFG R1s GREAT DAY!! Beat the Molleker silver SS with Dale Bergeron driving it, who beat me at the national tour. Date: 10/12/97 After Phase III Mods and BFG R1s COULDA, SHOULDA, WOULDA DONE BETTER!! The Molleker silver SS with Chuck Hanson at the wheel was the only contender in ESP at Kent today. My goal was to get within 2 seconds of Chuck for once. Well almost, except for hitting that damn cone on my last run. I swear I would have missed it had it not been for that gust of wind. Date: 10/19/97 After Phase III Mods and BFG R1s FUN DAY AT BREMERTON!! The silver SS with Chuck Hanson and Stacey Molleker at the wheel took the honors in LS. But I ran well and put in one GREAT time except for a cone!!! My last run was the only clean run. Yet my run with one cone () was still my fastest. W/O the cone it would have rated VERY, VERY close to Stacey's best run!! And, check this out, I beat the socks off Val Korry in his Porsche 924 (who beat me on 09/27/97 with this same car). Val has been around a long time and did Europe in his 911 this past summer. He was one of the first guys to give me some pointers. So I am VERY happy with my progress. And to top it off Jason Lenny came and lost his virginity and heart to autocross. He said it was the most fun he's ever had. And his girlfriend, Jessica, said (and I quote) "It was $%^&*$#!!", even though she was too scared to take a ride at first.

Date: 10/25/97 Went to Tsawwassen, B.C. (south of Vancouver a bit) today and checked out the F440 race track. Drove about 15 laps total for $74.88can. It was, for lack of a better word, FUN!! After racing Solo II it seemed pretty odd having the corner marker cones flying by you at eye level. Driving the open wheel formula car took a bunch of getting used to. I managed to do a 270 spin out after only a half lap. Guess my epinephrine got the better of me. Now what do I do? I'm pointed at the grass with racing slicks on and no reverse... just gas and brakes. Cock wheel hard left, punch it, rear blasts around, coast through grass shoulder, back onto the track, this is WAY COOL!! Until the course worker flags me to a stop, bends over and says, "Hey man. You're suppose to take the warm up lap at half speed. Remember?" "Right... That was half speed I thought?" By the end of round one and 7 runs later I was learning that this course was a major challenge to get right. And I was sweating off a couple pounds in the process! No more spins out though. But I sure need to figure this machine out. So out again for round two and 7 more runs... It will be a long time before I can get anywhere near Stephan Mackenzie's 56.16 record lap time. But, I'll be back. This could be a great way to tune the old Solo II skills in the off season. Note: These are my first runs EVER also, so don't laugh at me! At least
I nosed out Ken Puckett in his 1997, 305+HP T/A automatic. And
that was NOT easy to do, let me tell you! He beat me by more than
two full car lengths the first race we had (my A/C was on...sh$!).

Note: These times were on a hotter day. Larger tires all around, synthetic
Pennzoil Performax 100 and 92 octane fuel where the only changes to the Z.
Made 7 runs. But had a red light on run #3. Note run #6 RT!! Conclusion
is that new tires are neither a +/- for 1/4 mile drags. Time for more HP.

Note: These times were on a hotter day. Testing BFG R1's vs Pirell P7000's,
synthetic Pennzoil Performax 100 and 92 octane fuel, even tried running w/o
air filter. Made 9 runs. But had several bad runs due to tire spin. Conclusion
is that R1 tires are neither a +/- for 1/4 mile drags. The key to racing my
stock engine is three fold. (1) Rev up to 3200 rpm and hold. (2) Release
clutch as second from bottom amber light (1.5 lights above green) goes out
for best RT. (3) Shift fast at 6200 rpm (in red line but before rev limiter
kicks in) such that the 1/4 mile is divided into thirds and I never have to
finally shift to 4th gear (i.e. just use 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to cross line).
These first two runs were on the R1s w/o the air filter. The first run was pretty
good. The second run had major tire spin off the line. Jason was riding along.
Run #1 - RT=.120 I1=2.168 I2=6.158 I3=09.475 I4=12.311 ET=14.714sec SP=94.030mph
Run #2 - RT=.210 I1=2.705 I2=6.765 I3=10.108 I4=12.953 ET=15.382sec SP=92.834mph
The next 4 runs were a mixed bag of problems. Run #3 was great! Did everything
fairly well but lost the dial in run by .012 secs!! I was .048 over my 14.5 dial
and the faster car was .036 over his 13.22 dial. Run #4 I rev'd too high and
spun the tires. Same thing on run #5 plus I miss my shift to 3rd. Run #6 was
a fairly good run also.
Run #3 - RT=.160 I2=6.128 I3=09.377 I4=12.168 ET=14.548sec SP=94.835mph
Run #4 - RT=.235 I1=2.455 I2=6.521 I3=09.835 I4=12.665 ET=15.041sec SP=94.529mph
Run #5 - RT=.196 I1=2.525 I2=6.562 I3=09.844 I4=12.878 ET=15.520sec SP=84.141mph
Run #6 - RT=.182 I1=2.269 I2=6.250 I3=09.504 I4=12.319 ET=14.685sec SP=95.428mph
Now I changed back to the P7000 tires on the rear. I also learned how to stretch
out my shift points. But run #7 I forgot and left my A/C on. Ouch! Flush that
great start down the tubes... Run #8 gave me the best time of the night with a
3rd gear finish. Note how it was slower but actually won by avoiding the last
shift. Top speeds where better that way too. Spun tires a bit on run #9 again.
Run #7 - I1=2.337 I2=6.436 I3=09.759 I4=12.624 ET=15.031sec SP=93.835mph
Run #8 - RT=.174 I1=2.185 I2=6.157 I3=09.415 I4=12.195
Run #9 - RT=.145 I1=2.392 I2=6.429 I3=09.722 I4=12.558 ET=14.950sec SP=94.259mph

Note: These times were on a Wed evening and were run using my 4.5 psi Powerdyne
supercharger. Added some race fuel to boost the octane up to apx 95. Made
four runs. But managed to miss shift on the first two runs so those told
me ZIP. My third run was OK finally. But I was sure my forth run was even
quicker, except the timing sheet said something like "timer failed". Chit!
So I still am not sure what my best ET really is to date. Run #3 is as
follows...
